3. POSTURE ASSESSMENT
Posture is our most valuable possession. Disturbingly, faulty postures are too common in today's society and are caused by life's bad habits as well as from actions including poor technique during exercise.
The definition of posture refers to the alignment of your joints and muscles, therefore it is essential to maintain a perfect alignment at all times. If not, then you are at a higher risk of injury.
To use an analogy, imagine a building in an earthquake zone with the middle floors built slightly out of alignment. If a small earthquake were to hit, some damage would be expected. If this were to happen on a regular basis, the continuous damage would cause the building to break and eventually fall.
The building is synonymous with your posture. If your body is not correctly aligned, and it is regularly stressed by small forces; such as the constant impact of even gentle road-running, or greater impact during sports, with time, the body will also eventually suffer in result of a potentially serious injury.
For the majority of office workers, the seated position causes 'core' muscles in particular the abdominals and lower back to 'switch off' as the chair
supports them and does their job. With time, these muscles become inactive. Think where we store excess weight, in the muscles that are unused for the majority of our day. More importantly, this is why BACK PAIN is the leading cause of occupational injury?
