4. EXERCISE DATABASE
Our Exercise Database contains an extensive selection of 'functional'
exercises, aimed at improving the body's 'biomechanics', or simply
put, it's ability to move. With over 400 exercises (see additional
informationfor more about the exercise types) containing pictures,
descriptions and videos there is an enormous opportunity to begin,
develop and advance your knowledge and fitness. Furthermore, you
can perform the majority of these at home with minimal equipment.
Current exercise advice focuses heavily on isolating muscles, adopted
from bodybuilding techniques. The main problems with this style of
exercise are that today only a very small proportion of the population
have manual jobs and are therefore very sedentary. When subjected
to this situation, certain muscles go unused and 'switch off'. This has
a huge impact upon your posture.
The body is designed for movement and in this situation, isolation of
muscles during exercise can cause serious problems. For example, an
office worker must avoid strengthening muscles that contribute to a
'desk-type' posture, mainly: the chest and upper-abdominals. The
muscles opposing this position however, MUST be strengthened. It is
also essential that you begin MOVING.
Exercise must therefore must focus on actions that improve our
movement. Our exercises focus mainly on the following;
WHOLE BODY MOVEMENTS (to use more calories)
CO-ORDINATION & BALANCE
SPECIFIC ACTIONS THAT MIMIC MOVEMENTS and
EXERCISES THAT ARE BENEFICIAL TO POSTURE (in particular to improve
'core stability' to prevent BACK PAIN and INJURY)
In addition, our step-by-step Master Classes will help you understand
and develop specific areas such as;
HOW TO RUN WITH CORRECT TECHNIQUE (avoiding serious injury)
HOW TO EXERCISE THE LOWER ABDOMINALS
HOW TO BALANCE ON A SWISS BALL
HOW TO STRETCH BY UNDERSTANDING SCIENTIFIC PRINCIPLES |
